11.12.17 It’s Always Sunny in Denver…Basically Always.

It’s Saturday, November 11th, and it’s a balmy 58 degrees in Denver.  What many people didn’t know many years ago…was that Denver is sunny and warm all the time.  Then, many people found out – that this city rocks, and now we are one of the faster growing cities in the nation.  Not unlike my beard for No-shave November….Yikes!  However, though it can be a bummer with the influx in population it’s one of the reasons we have so many great breweries in this great state.

Kim and I started our hike out at William Fredick Hayden Park.  This is an awesome hike in Denver, but getting closer to Golden, CO.  It’s a bit of a beast when you enjoy beer, but a great reason to hit before the beer drinking.  Like Kim and I always say “we are earning our beers today”.  The summit (sits at 6800 ft.) has some amazing views of the beautiful city of Denver and the surrounding areas.

After our awesome day hike – we headed into Golden to Cannonball Creek brewery.  They have been around since 2013 – and I really dig the atmosphere of this brewery.  The beers were very good, but my favorite part of this brewery had to be the Trump Hands IPA.  First, what an awesome name for a beer, secondly it was a very tasty session IPA, and thirdly it took home a Gold Medal from the GABF in 2016 for session IPA.  Needless to say – it was delicious.

Then off to New Terrain Brewing, which is one of our favorite breweries in all of Colorado.  They have been around since 2016 and when people visit us in Denver – we always head to Golden so they can experience this brewery.  First, the brewery building is awesome.  Amazing patio, the inside is comfortable and open, and the views – amazing views of Golden from just about everywhere.  Secondly, they do a great job with food truck schedules – they seem to always have a great food truck and it’s very easy to see who will be there on the website.  Finally, and most importantly, their beer ROCKS!!!  They have styles for everyone, Kims favorite is the Rubus Deliciosus – a Raspberry Wit – I am always surprised how tough it is to find a fruit beer at breweries.  These guys have usually 2-3 on tap and they are awesome!  I would also like to add the Suntrip Wit – which I hadn’t had until this trip.  It won a Silver Medal at the GABF and was delicious.  We will be back to this brewery many more times to come!

Our Day concluded at Little Machine Beer Company – we had a four-beer flight that we shared.  I’ve really enjoyed the Razz Against the Machine Tart Raspberry Ale for a fruit beer.  It’s not too sour and packs a distinct Raspberry Punch. The “sleeper” in this group was the That’s My Yam!  Sweet Potato Stout.  Even though it’s between 55-70 degrees in Denver right now, I liked to pretend that it’s fall.  I love stouts during the colder months, and this beer certainly not disappoint – loved the fall spice taste.  Finally, the guys at Little Machine Beer love being there.  All the beertenders were so kind and enhanced the atmosphere with a ton of hilarious Jargon.  We even had a “beer shot” which was a taster of the Razz – that we took as a shooter with the beertender – but that was it.  They made the atmosphere to amazing!

Sunday, November 12th, started with a descent bit of needing a bloody mary.  Usually after a couple of breweries, in our 30’s, the struggle is real.  We headed to Bull and Bush brewery.  This brewery was opened in 1971 and has a super interesting English vibe when you enter the brewery.  We have been consistently going there for brunch over the last 5 years or so.  The brunch is only on Saturday and Sunday.  We always sit on the patio – which I would always recommend as it is more open and not as dark!  The food is super delicious – and – with all the hipster breakfast joints taking at least an hour to get breakfast – here – you don’t wait.  In 5 years, I have waited once….for 5 minutes.  Kim and I split either “the cure” or the breakfast burrito…be sure to split, the portions are large, and you need room for the bloody’s.  We order two spicy bloodys, with a side of pickle juice, and NFL Sunday’s is ready to rock.   If you are grabbing a beer, my buddy and I always get the Man Beer – also they probably have some of the coolest swag you will find in any brewery.

We finished our Sunday at Crazy Mountain Brewery in Cherry Creek, CO.  They just recently purchased all of the World of Beer locations, so they are everywhere.  Which is awesome, because it close to my work and very good.  My favorite has to be the Lava Lake Wit – unique flavor unlike anything I’ve had.  Very light and crushable!

We finalized our night watching the Broncos get demolished by the Pats…it’s been a rough year for football in Denver – can Payton un-retire???  Until next weekend!
